Ouch

I had some dental work done last year - an "overlay" to fix a tooth with a crack in in that wasn't bad enough to need a crown. That tooth was never quite right after - my bite wasn't quite right and the tooth has been very sensitive to heat and cold. And later, pressure sensitive as well.

Starting about 3 weeks ago I've had a constant little nagging headache. At first I didn't associate it with my tooth, but later I decided it really did seem to be emanating from that. At first it wasn't bad, and I figured it could wait until an appointment I had scheduled for next week. But this week I've been in constant pain, all the time. Not in my tooth directly, but in my jaw and head and neck on that side. So yesterday I "broke" and called the dentist - I couldn't bear the thought of being like this for another week.

They were able to get me in for a check up today, and it looks like the root on that tooth is dying and I need a root canal. So I've got a prescription for antibiotics to treat the abscess, Tylenol 3 for pain, and an appointment for a root canal at 7 am tomorrow morning. Oh joy, oh bliss. But if it will make this headache go away, then I'm all for it, really.

Ick! I'm sorry it came to this!

Here's hoping it goes smoothly and gets rid of the pain for you.

Ugh, but yeah, a root canal is a wonderful thing after experiencing the pain. The only difficult part for me was remembering to keep my mouth open while he had all his tools in there.

My first root canal was a miserable experience, the second not so much. Make sure you take your pain meds, and you may want to have Liam over at his father's tomrrow so you can rest up a bit. It can be a lot of trauma, but as with all things, your mileage may vary.

I had one last year, it was fine. Now, I didn't have an abscess then, so I'm guessing this one might be a little worse, but hopefully not too bad.

You should be fine then. Good luck tomorrow!

Ouch! I suspect the root canal will mean a huge improvement. (Mine sure did.) I hope it goes as smoothly as mine did (I was actually inclined to go to work afterwards, though my boss told me not to).

I have a can't-be-missed conference call at 10, so i'm definitely coming into work after...

Wow. That really stinks. Hope you feel better very soon. There is nothing worse to me than tooth and associated pain.

*hugs*

*Oh, and I'm not being a smart ass with this icon. I made it earlier today since I'm going to be having a lot of dental work done in the next few weeks. Don't take it like I was being mean, just happy to use it on a tooth related post. *g*

No offense taken. :-)

I probably wouldn't be here if i hadn't skipped dentist appointments for most of my life, so the warning is well made.

That sounds like me too. I'm certainly paying for it now.
